Cannabidiol (CBD) is having a moment. While research is limited, there’s evidence that suggests CBD may have therapeutic benefits, like helping you sleep and alleviating pain. Unlike tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), CBD is both nonintoxicating and federally legal.

Retailers are paying attention, which is why you’ve likely seen CBD-infused products, from mascara to shampoo, just about everywhere.

But just because a product contains CBD doesn’t mean it’s actually doing anything for you. It’s important to understand the benefits of CBD and opt for reputable brands and products.

GoGreen Hemp is a wellness company that makes CBD products from organic hemp grown on federally compliant Colorado farms. The products are lab-tested by batch on a bimonthly basis.

Read on for a review of GoGreen Hemp and some of its best products.

GoGreen Hemp was established in 2016, making it one of the earlier brands to appear in the relatively young CBD market. It seems to have a good reputation in the wellness community, mostly due to its commitment to quality.

This is particularly important in the CBD industry, which isn’t regulated the same way as medications or supplements are by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA).

The FDA doesn’t test CBD products or make any guarantees about their safety. However, it does send warning letters to CBD companies making false claims. To date, GoGreen Hemp’s CBD hasn’t received one of these letters.

GoGreen Hemp gives customers lots of information about its processes and products — a respectable position in a largely unregulated marketplace.

Hemp source and processing

GoGreen Hemp says it makes its products from hemp grown organically in Colorado. After harvest, plants are milled into a coarse powder, then sent to the extraction and manufacturing facility, which is also in Colorado.

GoGreen Hemp uses supercritical carbon dioxide (CO2) extraction and a liquid chromatography process to remove all THC, wax, chlorophyll, and plant pigments from the hemp powder. CO2 extraction doesn’t leave behind any potentially harmful chemicals, but it can mean fewer aromatic terpenes in the final product.

The company uses an additional nanoemulsion technology for its softgels and nano tinctures. Nanoemulsion means that CBD molecules are broken down and made more water soluble. Research from 2019 suggests that nanoemulsion increases how much CBD your body is able to absorb.

GMP certification

The FDA requires all CBD companies to comply with its current good manufacturing practices (CGMPs). CGMPs ensure standards are met for manufacturing, processing, and packing. While a company can use a third party to verify that it’s meeting all CGMPs, GoGreen Hemp hasn’t taken this additional step.

Third-party testing

Every batch of GoGreen Hemp CBD products is tested by Botanacor, a third-party, ISO 17025-compliant lab. The raw CBD oil is tested for potency, heavy metals, pesticides, microbials, and solvents.

All final products are tested for potency and the cannabinoid profile. Some also appear to be tested for contaminants, but not all of them. That makes it difficult to verify their quality, as it may be possible for contaminants to be introduced during manufacturing.

You can take a look at the batch-specific certificates of analysis (COAs) online or by scanning the QR codes on the packaging. Since all products are tested bimonthly by batch, current information is always at your fingertips.

GoGreen Hemp sells edibles, topicals, tinctures, skin care products, and pet products. All of their products are made with broad-spectrum CBD, which means they don’t contain any THC.

Prices are reasonable, ranging from $5.99 for CBD-infused lip balm to $64.99 for CBD softgels. Orders placed online ship for free within 1 business day.

The company offers a few different discount options, too. You can get 15 percent off your first order if you join the email list, and you can take advantage of the rewards and referral programs.

Plus, the company’s Helping Hand Assistance Program gives active service members, veterans, people with long-term disabilities, and those living on fixed incomes a 20 percent discount on all orders. To qualify for this program, you’ll need to apply.

Reviews of GoGreen Hemp and its products, both on their website and third-party sites, are excellent. Customers rave about the great prices, customer service, product efficacy, and fast shipping.

GoGreen Hemp doesn’t currently have a listing with the Better Business Bureau, but there are 780 reviews on TrustSpot, and 9 out of 10 customers would recommend the company and its products.

Unopened GoGreen Hemp products may be returned within 14 days of delivery for a full refund, minus the cost of shipping.

If you want to try CBD but aren’t sure where to begin, GoGreen Hemp offers a quiz designed to zero in on the best CBD option for your needs.

First, you’ll be asked to consider why you’re interested in trying CBD. For example, maybe you’re looking to get better sleep, alleviate pain, or just improve your overall wellness. The quiz will ask how significantly this issue affects your quality of life on a scale from minimal to severe. Based on your answer, you’ll get a few product recommendations.

We recommend using a product that has comprehensive, detailed testing info available.

GoGreen Hemp offers both edible products, like tinctures, and topical products, like salves.

If you choose a tincture, you’ll take it sublingually, or under your tongue. You can also add it to food or drinks.

Capsules can be swallowed with water, just like you’d do with any pill. Topicals can be massaged into your skin for targeted relief.

Keep in mind that CBD dosing, much like effects, is highly individual. There’s no one-size-fits-all recommendation, since height, weight, age, metabolism, and consumption method all have an impact on the effect and onset of a given product.

You’ll likely have to do a little trial and error until you find what works for you. It’s best to start with a small dose and gradually increase if needed.

While research from 2017 suggests that CBD is generally considered safe, some people will experience mild side effects. In most cases, these include:

  • fatigue
  • diarrhea
  • changes in appetite
  • changes in weight

A 2020 study found that these side effects may be more likely if you’re consuming CBD with high fat foods.

It’s a good idea to speak with your doctor or a knowledgeable cannabis clinician before trying CBD. That’s especially important if you currently take any medications. CBD could affect the way your body processes them.

GoGreen Hemp offers a range of broad-spectrum CBD products for people and pets. They’re transparent about how they make their products and where they source their hemp.

While they do comprehensive testing on the oil used to make their products, some of the final products are tested for potency and cannabinoid profile only. It’s best to choose a product that’s been thoroughly tested in its final form.

Is CBD Legal? Hemp-derived CBD products (with less than 0.3 percent THC) are legal on the federal level, but are still illegal under some state laws. Marijuana-derived CBD products are illegal on the federal level, but are legal under some state laws. Check your state’s laws and those of anywhere you travel. Keep in mind that nonprescription CBD products are not FDA-approved, and may be inaccurately labeled.
