Who Should I Vote For? Or Vote Against?

Who should I vote for? It’s seems like a straight forward question. By this point most voters have decided who they will vote for on or before November 3. However, given the the choices we have, I’m not sure I’m really voting for anybody.

In fact, I voted early today. And as I left the town hall, I wonder if I voted for a candidate or was just voting AGAINST the other.

I watched the Twitter world explode the past two days and try to cancel Ice Cube for merely taking a meeting to negotiate some issues with Trump. Let’s be real, Ice Cube has been telling us black lives matter well before you appropriated the hashtag. So am I stepping in it, when I say, Biden doesn’t really inspire me. I mean he’s ok but would he be as appealing had he not been matched up next to the Dumpster-fire-in-chief?

But maybe it’s more than that. Maybe my political views don’t align with either side of the two-party system. So again, who should I vote for?

Democrats and Republicans have evolved over time, but the constraints imposed by only two ways of thinking have stifled progress in this country for far too long. It seems that most Americans aren’t walking ideologies and the truth is somewhere in the middle. Unless they’re on Facebook. Then they’re just complete assholes.

So who should I vote for if I’m crazy enough to not be a lap dog to either party? Let me run through some of the “hot-button” political issues that always get thrown around this time every four years just for your outrage that I am not a lemming.

The Second Amendment

Trump will make you think the Democrats are going to take your guns away. Democrats are advocates for gun control.

But who should I vote for if I think unchecked gun access is a problem, but am 100% supportive of the second amendment. Further, I am not even sure gun control is the answers to prevent mass murder in our society. I think that addressing mental illness in a serious way is a better path forward.

But who has time for addressing the root cause when all you need is a sound bite?

Capitalism

Capitalism is aight. I’ve studied many different economic systems. I might be a capitalist, but I’m not an asshole, and don’t think there should be people starving in the United States while someone else can be worth $200 billion from starting an online bookstore. But giving power to the State to control everything?

Socialism is ok conceptually. I’ve read Das Kapital 1 and 2, which is more than I can say for most internet socialists. However, much like capitalism, the fatal flaw is human greed. And you best believe, in a socialist society the “state” will be made up of the same money-grubbing slime who currently dominates our current system.

Black Lives Matter

Trump is a racist. No vote.

Biden is…well…not Trump. But he knows a thing or two about the prison industrial complex.

Will either of them dismantle systemic racism in the United States? I seriously doubt it.

Overreaching Government

Trump is all about individual freedoms. Biden is about the government being your savior.

I don’t need the government in my business. The government shouldn’t be the teet at which people depend above all else.

However, it’s probably a good idea to have some government help and involvement when a global pandemic rips through your country like me at a dispensary.

Bottom Line

Fuck Trump. I voted today.
