Rapper Aminé is Changing The Music Video Game During Quarantine

Aminé’s third album, Limbo, is my top album of 2020 thus far. The album features hip hop and R&B royalty like Young Thug, Summer Walker, and Injury Reserve. On top of a well crafted album, the videos that accompany are creative and were created during COVID-19. When we look back at the pandemic in ten years, these videos will remind us of the times and how artists like rapper Aminé, had to get innovative. The three videos he’s released for his album showcase how COVID-19 has effected the creation of music videos and how teams are adapting.

June 24th 2020: “Riri “

The second single off of Aminé’s album, “Riri”, shot to the top of the charts. The video utilizes his usual group of friends driving around in fancy cars and posing in front of a mansion. While we see clips of models dancing around their homes, making cookies, and doing their makeup while singing along. In June, things were starting to open up again in the U.S. Although, we don’t see any masks due to many solo shots of Aminé and folks seeming to be in their own bubbles at home. Also, the variety in locations makes the video even more engaging. Rapper Aminé is known for colorful videos with crisp shots and fits.

August 4th 2020: “Compensating”

“Compensating” is the third single off of Aminé’s most recent album. The video takes place mostly outdoors on a tennis court. Some of the other shots include folks dancing in front of a tennis racket filled wall and Aminé in various locations solo. All of rapper Aminé’s videos feel so fresh and fun, from the color schemes to the genuine good vibes you feel. This video has a handful of new faces in person, which raises the question of what safety measures they took. In fact, you never see the new group of folks interacting with Aminé’s core group in the video.

October 21st 2020: “Woodlawn”

This is by far the most crowded video we have seen from rapper Aminé that is shouting out his hometown. The first scene we seen in about 20 people all wearing masks that say “Limbo” outside. These folks are NOT socially distant. All of the two people scenes or his usual group of friends are also outside. Out of the other two videos, “Woodlawn” is the most energetic song. Also, it has a more industrial feel as we see folks on a basketball court, in the snow, and in the desert.

How Safe Were These Videos?

Honestly, they seemed very safe in comparison to some other rappers. I’m 100% positive everyone in these videos were tested. Frankly, it’s just important to use your platform to promote things right now like wearing masks, even if it’s in a fun way. Shoutout to rapper Aminé for creating a solid visual story for his album “Limbo,” in these weird times.
