Even if sexism dominates the airwaves, female singers control the charts. This year, we’ve heard some unlikely combinations from various female rappers and singers. If you’re looking for a new song to add to a party playlist or bump while driving around, I got you. Keep these songs on rotation, support femme artists! Below, I’ve created a list of the best female R&B and hip hop collaborations of 2020.

Best R&B Collaborations: “Change Your Life” by Kehlani & Jhené Aiko

“Change Your Life” is the 6th song off of Kehlani’s sophomore album, It Was Good Until It Wasn’t. This song is a smooth and the first collab from the R&B pair, Jhené Aiko and Kehlani. Both tend to sing about similar material including broken and developing relationships. This song harps on wanting to help a potential partner grow in all aspects of their life.

Best R&B Collaborations: “Woman” by NAO and Lianne La Havas

This powerful song celebrates woman of color and the current battle for equality with a summery vibe. Both of these U.K. stars have amazing backgrounds in music. In fact, Nao has co-signs from artists like Mura Masa, SiR, and 6lack, while Lianne La Havas has collaborated with Tom Misch and Jordan Rakei. The track is funky, sensual, and jazzy.

Best Hip Hop Collaborations: “Flick! (Stacey)” by Jean Deaux & Yung Baby Tate

Up and coming rappers Chicago native Jean Deaux and Georgia native Yung Baby Tate joined forces for on Deaux’s debut album Watch This. I’m tempted to say these female rappers have one of the best singles of 2020. This gritty track touches on relationships and time in the bedroom. Although Deaux is known for her R&B songs, this hits different.

Best Hip Hop Collaborations: “WAP” by Cardi B & Megan Thee Stallion

Do I really need to say much about this top charting song from two of the top rappers in the game? Cardi B and Megan Thee Stallion have created SO much controversy with one song and #WAP has been used 9.8 Billion times on Tik Tok. This track obviously had to be one of the best female R&B and hip hop collaborations of 2020.

Best R&B and Hip Hop Collaborations: “Back To The Streets” by Saweetie & Jhené Aiko

While such a feisty title, you’d think this song would be more aggressive. But this collab is relaxed, fun, and takes influence from 90’s R&B with some electronic and piano twists. Aiko even seems to be rapping at points, which is fire. This is the new anthem for breakups, know your worth and find the next!

Best R&B and Hip Hop Collaborations: “Aquí Yo Mando” by Kali Uchis & Rico Nasty

DMV natives Kali Uchis and Rico Nasty are SLEPT on. Rico Nasty is one of the strongest rappers in the game. In 2018, both artists put out albums respectively that put them on the map. In particular, this song is groundbreaking because we hear Nasty rap in Spanish for the first time.

We Need To Celebrate More Female Collaborations

In the rap world, we see so much rivalry from popular artists. It’s time we switch it up and beg for those collabs! All of the artists I’ve listed can hold their own, but these collaborations have helped showcase other skills. My list of best female R&B and hip hop collaborations is hopefully just starting as we see more artists creating together.
