Netflix has been releasing tons of new content each week. If you were caught up in the endless stream of entertainment, Blood of Zeus might’ve been a hidden gem you passed by.

There are so many streaming services with their own oceans of movies and shows, choosing what to watch can definitely become a chore sometimes. So I don’t blame you if you missed this Netflix original that dropped in late October.

I happened to stumble upon Blood of Zeus while mindlessly browsing through Netflix. The vibrant animation from the trailer immediately got my attention. A new action series was just what I was looking for. So, I decided to dive right in.

A Gift From the Gods

Blood of Zeus is an original story about a young man living a hard life in ancient Greece. He discovers that his true father is actually the god Zeus himself. The young man, named Heron, gets himself wrapped up in a clash between the gods of Olympus and some demons from the underworld who are waging war on the heavens.

Gods battling demons may seem like an overused trope at this point, but it certainly fits for this action-packed series. Each episode is roughly a half-hour, and there is eight episodes total. So, it is definitely not too big of a commitment to dive into. If you are like me, it can be easily binged in a single day.

The animation is absolutely awesome. The color is vibrant and sharp, and the show looks so stylish that it is truly captivating on a visual level. Even if the story of Blood of Zeus does not get your attention, the action scenes definitely will.

The music and sound design are also incredible. Sometimes an animated series could’ve been great, but the voices are too cartoonish to take seriously. Blood of Zeus has an excellent cast. The voice performances are never distracting. The series also has some great music that makes the final battle feel so epic.

When the gods clash, it is bloody and brutal. The fight scenes are incredibly well choreographed for an animated show. By the end of the first season, the visuals are clearly a highlight of the series.

Not for the faint of heart

Be warned, this is no kids’ show. The action is brutal as hell. Every bit of the bloody mess is shown in detail, nothing is left to the imagination.

The greek gods stab each other in the back in a way that would make Game of Thrones fans proud. Amidst the endless streaming options, Blood of Zeus is a gloriously gory ride.

Powerhouse Animation Studios nailed the action in this series. The studio also worked on the Netflix show Castlevania. Both series have tons of violence and action that keeps you on the edge of your seat. I can’t wait to check out what they work on next.

In Conclusion

It is hard to pick what to watch when the options seem limitless. Blood of Zeus feels like a breath of fresh air in a world full of remakes and reboots. Netflix has some great options, and this new animated series fits right in.

Adult animation might not be everyone’s jam. It can be overly bloody at times, and the gore can definitely push some people away. I love a good mythological story and the violence doesn’t bother me too much. The show balances itself out with an excellent cast and killer animation.

Greek mythology has tons of potential stories for future seasons to explore. Many of the creators are Greek, so the show feels authentic in a refreshing way. If you can handle the brutal violence, Blood of Zeus is a great choice to dive into.
