OPP shut down illegal $80M cannabis operation in Leamington

The organized crime enforcement bureau of OPP say they have dismantled a large-scale cannabis operation in Leamington — with seizures of cannabis estimated to be more than $80 million in value.

Led by the Provincial Joint Force Cannabis Enforcement Team, the raid took place at a greenhouse on Mersea Road on Wednesday.

Multiple OPP units descended on the scene, uncovering more than 75,000 cannabis plants and more than 2,400 kilograms of processed cannabis.

A total of 10 individuals from North York, Scarborough and Markham were arrested — each of them charged with possessing cannabis for the purpose of selling and cultivating cannabis plants at a place that is not a dwelling, in violation of the Cannabis Act.

OPP said their investigation is ongoing.

Insp. Glenn Miller, detachment commander of Essex County OPP, said the latest raid shows the resolution of “criminal enterprise groups” to make money from illegal activity.

“To those individuals or groups who continue to profit from these illegal grow operations: The OPP will relentlessly pursue your interests, seize your property, and introduce you to the criminal justice system,” Miller warned.
