In recent years, CBD – or cannabidiol – has become incredibly popular. This naturally-occurring compound is derived from the hemp plant, and may boost your health in a number of ways. While the research on CBD is still developing, scientists have linked CBD to a host of benefits. But, what if you have taken CBD, and aren’t seeing any benefits? Is it all just a bunch of hype?
There are a number of reasons why CBD might not be working for you. Before giving up on CBD entirely, read through our list of why you may not be experiencing the benefits of CBD – and what you can do about it.

You Aren’t Taking Enough
It can be hard to find the right serving size of CBD. What works for one person may not be right for another person. That can make it tricky to land on the serving size that will give you the benefits that you seek.
We recommend consulting with your doctor before starting CBD. They might be able to give you an idea of how much you should take each day. If they don’t, you should start with a small serving size and gradually increase it over time. Keep track of the amount that you take and how it makes you feel to better understand what works your body.
Many people find that CBD is most beneficial when it has a chance to build up in your body. This allows your body to have a consistent level of CBD, which can help the body maintain homeostasis, or balance. Again, because each person’s body chemistry is different, adjust your serving size and keep careful notes to figure out what helps you feel your best.
You Need a Different Type of CBD
CBD comes in a variety of formulations. If you aren’t feeling the effects of the CBD that you are taking, it may be that you simply need to try a different delivery method.
There are five broad options for taking CBD: tinctures or oils, topical products (like creams and salves), vape oils, CBD capsules, and edibles (such as gummies). Generally, taking a tincture under your tongue (sublingually) allows you to get the quickest results because the CBD can be absorbed directly into your bloodstream. By comparison, when you eat an edible, the product goes through your digestive system and it can take longer to feel an effect.
If you have been eating CBD gummies or smoking a CBD vape, it may be time to consider a different delivery method – like placing a drop of CBD oil directly under your tongue. Alternatively, if you have localized pain, your best bet may be to use a topical cream, salve, or balm to apply the CBD exactly where you need it. The staff at Green Wellness Life can help to recommend a product that will meet your needs.
The CBD You Are Using Isn’t High Quality
While there is a lot to be excited about when it comes to CBD, it isn’t always easy to know what you’re getting when you purchase a CBD product. Because CBD is not regulated by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), it is all too easy to buy a scam product. If you’ve been taking CBD and don’t think that it is doing anything, it may be because the product you are using contains little to no CBD.
Labeling accuracy is a big problem in the CBD marketplace. According to one study, just 31% of CBD products studied actually contained the amount of CBD advertised. That means that there is a very high likelihood that the CBD product that you are using doesn’t have nearly as much CBD as it claims.
You can avoid this problem by only purchasing high-quality CBD from reputable sources. In particular, you should only purchase CBD that has been independently tested by a third party laboratory. The company should make those lab results available online for your review. If they don’t, avoid buying their CBD.
You Haven’t Given It Enough Time to Work
With all of the excitement about CBD in the health and wellness world, you may think that your world will change the first time that you try it. When it doesn’t, you’ll probably be disappointed – and want to quit taking it.
The important thing to remember is that while CBD has a lot of great properties, it isn’t a miracle cure. If you have been suffering from chronic pain for years, you probably won’t get instant relief the minute you place a drop of CBD oil under your tongue. Instead, it often takes time to build up in your system before you feel relief.
While many prescription medications may work immediately, they often come with a range of nasty side effects (like the addictiveness of prescription painkillers) that CBD doesn’t have. Give your body time to build up a level of CBD before deciding that it doesn’t work. You may find that you notice a difference after taking CBD consistently for a few weeks or even months.
It Isn’t For You
While the early research into potential benefits of CBD is promising, that doesn’t mean that CBD is right for everyone. CBD works by interacting with our body’s endocannabinoid system, or ECS. However, scientists don’t know exactly how CBD interacts with the ECS – or why each person’s system is slightly different.
An individual’s experience with CBD is based on factors such as their metabolism, body chemistry, and even their genetics. Just like with any other supplement, what works for one person may not be right for another person.
Spend some time experimenting with brands, products and serving sizes to see if you experience benefits from CBD. If it doesn’t, you can move onto something else with the knowledge that you gave CBD a shot – and that it just may not work for some people.
