History of Cannabis Tours at Calgary’s Heritage Park

CANNABIS CULTURE – Cannabis connoisseurs in Calgary have a new option for an entertaining, educational and socially-distant evening out, where consumption will be allowed.

Cannanaskis, Alberta’s first cannabis tourism operator, is expanding to offer History of Cannabis Tours at Calgary’s historic Heritage Park.

This three-hour, outdoor, adult-only tour is led by Dave Dormer, a journalist and researcher with more than 20 years experience. Tours will run from 6 to 9 p.m. on Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays starting March 3 and are available for groups of four to eight people (single cohorts only while COVID-19 health measures are in place).

The pick-up and drop-off point for the tour is the public square in Calgary’s Bridgeland neighbourhood, in the 900 block of General Avenue N.E.

The adventure begins with a visit to a nearby dispensary, FivePoint Cannabis, then guests are transported in our 12-passenger CannaVan to the Weedon schoolyard at Heritage Park where smoking and vaping will be allowed as we explore the 12,000-year History of Cannabis, from its first uses as a textile by neolithic people to the recreational and underground markets seen today.

Seating is provided and there will be a fire pit to keep us warm during the winter months.

Guest will get to read some of the earliest books to mention Cannabis, learn about the advent of Hashish and the creation of the modern cannabis industry, see the hand-written court record and hear the story of one of the first Canadians convicted of possession and trafficking nearly a century ago, and more.

Hot beverages and snacks will be served during the winter season (November-April) and guests will have an option for dinner during the summer season (May-October).

COVID-19 health measures will be in effect while the pandemic is ongoing:

• Heritage Park tours are limited to single cohorts with a maximum of eight (8) people.
• Guests should not participate if they are feeling ill or have symptoms including fever, cough, and shortness of breath.
• Masks must be worn while inside the CannaVan.
• Hand sanitizer must be used before getting in the CannaVan.

Cannanaskis began offering History of Cannabis Tours to K-Country in September 2020 — a 4.5-hour long adventure that includes a locally-sourced charcuterie lunch in the foothills of the Rocky Mountains, and is available on Saturdays and Sundays.
