2021 hasn’t slowed down one bit. This week in the underground 411 we gathered together releases, interviews, and the latest developments around our favorite rappers and producers. The industry is always rife with new events and happenings, check back every week to get the latest on the greatest across the scene. The last week of February has arrived with plenty of surprises for our entertainment. 

Freddie Gibbs and Ryan Moses Interview on Joe Rogan

The acclaimed underground rapper Gibbs met with creator of Comedy Central’s Roast Battle and podcast host Joe Rogan to discuss everything from drug policy to crazy hood stories. Joe Rogan has a long history of bringing on successful music acts to his show, hip hop MC’s in particular (Kanye, RZA, Killer Mike anyone?). The trio spoke of their habits and lifestyles, offering a great look into their lives and opinions. They covered the recent presidential elections and the implications of it, as well as insane weight loss regimens for actors. The hours-long conversation is a great listen for anyone who wants to see more about the inside of this Grammy Award-winning rapper. 

The Alchemist Announces forthcoming album with Armand Hammer

Armand Hammer are one of the most eclectic duos in music today. The group consisting of rappers Billy Woods and Elucid has been prolific on and off throughout the years, releasing their first mixtape in 2013. Their most recent release was the 2018 Paraffin, which made it to many end-of-year lists on publications across the country. The Alchemist took to Instagram on the 24th this week to announce the next project he’s had up his sleeve. HARAM will arrive March 26th to streaming services with features from artists such as Earl Sweatshirt and Quelle Chris.

Dallas, Texas Rapper Yella Beezy Arrested on Gun Charges

The Texas-born rapper Yella Beezy was booked into jail earlier this week under charges of illegally carrying weapons in his vehicle. 5 guns were apprehended when the authorities found out that Yella had a previous gang related charge. The rapper has lived in Texas nearly his whole life, growing up in the Oak Cliff, Dallas neighborhood. Hits such as “That’s On Me,” and “Bacc At It Again” have given the artist plenty of recognition in the past few years of his career. As of the time of writing, Beezy was no longer in jail, having posted bail.

Run The Jewels Drop New Remix Music Video with Mexican Institute of Sound

Run The Jewels may find themselves releasing albums that center around the same production themes and engineering, but they are no strangers to left field remixes. This week, a new “Ooh La La” remix by Mexican Institute of Sound accompanied by a music video surfaced on Youtube. The progressive visualizer contains a little more attention to detail than other run of the mill visualizers. If it’s about time for you to settle down for the evening, take a quick dessert cruise and relax to the latin-infused RTJ track. 

Chance The Rapper Sues Former Manager

Chance The Rapper is notable for many things, some good, some not so much. An indie-oriented act from the beginning, the rapper made his name with iconic mixtapes like Acid Rap. The latter end of his career has suffered commercially due to artistic choices and (apparently) now poor business moves. Chance’s legal team announced that he was suing his previous manager for misusing his influence into propping up his own brands and streams of income, such as a wine company. This comes after last year’s lawsuit that occurred vice versa, with manager Pat Corcoran suing the rapper for breach of contract.
