Weed and rap songs go together like bananas in Honey Nut Cheerios, African-American athletes and the Kardashians, Mardi Gras, and mammary flashers. Though, what are the best hip-hop tracks about pot?
A plethora of elite rappers have spit about indulging in ganja smoke on songs: The Notorious B.I.G., Tupac, Eminem, Nas, Scarface, Big Pun, Kendrick Lamar, Ludacris, OutKast, Busta Rhymes, Three 6 Mafia … seriously, we could go on forever! However, we’re here to highlight the greatest rap songs to put on while you roll, light, and inhale marijuana.

Enjoy the following list/tunes, courtesy of us.
I Got 5 On It – The Luniz feat Michael Marshall

Come on, when it comes to marijuana rap songs, this is perhaps the mecca. When it’s on, you can’t help but sing at the top of your lungs, “I got 5 on it! Duh, duh, duh, duh, duh, keep; I got five on it! Messin’ wit that indo’ weed…” Right, you know none of us know that second line in the hook!
This tune slap to the point that even P. Diddy himself had to remix it. Beyond any doubt, this is one of the grooviest hip hop tunes in reference to cannabis usage.
The Next Episode – Dr. Dre ft. Snoop Dogg, Kurupt, Nate Dogg
Any song that literally instructs you to smoke pot is an instant favorite! “The Next Episode” by Dr. Dre ft. Snoop Dogg, Kurupt, Nate Dogg is a classic banger. But in reality, it’s Nate Dogg’s last words on the song that solidifies it.
As the track comes to a close, out of nowhere all you hear is: “Hey, hey, hey, hey! Smoke weed every day.” No matter race, color, or creed, every weed puffer yelled “hell yeah!” when Nate Dogg said that. From that day forth, no one could judge you for smoking Mary Jane on a daily basis because you’d justify it with “eh, Nate Dogg said smoke it every day!”.
How High (Remix) – Method Man & Redman
Redman and Method Man are the ultimate pot duo; as a matter fact, both of their names are premised on weed (‘red’ and ‘method’)! As far as rap songs about marijuana go, “How High (Remix)” would make a smoker that went cold turkey pick that blunt back up!
“Look up in the sky, it’s a bird, it’s a plane (it’s the Funk Doctor Spock smokin’ buddah on the train); How high?!” Yeah, pass back the lighter before you accidentally steal it.
Good Times ( I Get High) – Styles P
“I get high – high – high – high” (Every day); “I get high – high – high – high” (Every night); “I get high – high – high – high” (All the time)…” If that ain’t the weed anthem than we don’t know what else is!
This single off of Style P‘s debut album A Gangster and a Gentleman set the tone for a lot of 80’s babies’ lives. The Yonkers rapper isn’t shy about his cannabis habit and sings on wax about it to whoever has ears to listen. You gotta love it.
High All the Time – 50 Cent
Our favorite part of the song? Of course … “Every time I roll up, n*ggas holla “Roll up!” Then I tell ’em “Hold up,” you ain’t getting money you ain’t smoking in my Benzo, 20-inch Lorenzos, smoking on indo, high as a motherf*cker…”
A vintage track off of one of the best hip-hop albums of all time, for sure. 50 Cent claimed in his recent book “Hustle Harder, Hustle Smarter” he doesn’t smoke pot, but we can always put on this tune whenever we want to reminisce on his ganja-puffing days.
Feelin’ it – Jay Z
Another rapper that has publicly professed they don’t smoke marijuana is Jay Z. However, his song “Feelin’ it” is an absolute dichotomy—and he evens reveals it!
“Okay I’m getting weeded now, I know I contradicted myself, look, I don’t need that now; It’s just once in a blue when there’s nothing to do, and the tension gets too thick for my sober mind to cut through; I get to zoning…” The beat, lyrics, and chorus make this track straight fire (pun intended).
Hits from the Bong – Cypress Hill
Out of all these marijuana rap songs, this one may be the funnest! When you rock Cypress Hill’s “Hits from the Bong” you just wanna puff and dance outside in your underwear with no coronavirus shielding mask.
This is the ideal house party or frat party song, where beer kegs and massive-sized bongs are the norm. If you’ve never heard it, put the song on and you’ll see exactly what we’re talking about.
Fried Day – Bone Thugs-N-Harmony
Naturally, this song mentally takes you right to the scene when Day-Day, Roach, and Craig were blazing in the back of Pinky’s record shop. “And this is for the weed heads, and this is for the weed heads; Get a bag of dope and a quarter ooooooooooh!”
We love that part! “Fried Day” by Bone Thugs is certainly one of the best rap songs ever about weed. “So who want a bag? Who want a bag? You want a bag, you want a bag, you got a bag…” Man! ‘Bout to text the weed man right now…
Roll It Up, Light It Up, Smoke It Up – Cypress Hill
Let’s face it, Cypress Hill could be every song on this list. “Roll it up, light it up, smoke it up; Inhale, exhale!” This song is not only great because of the melody, but because it gives you play-by-play directives on what to do when you have the weed in hand!
“Gimme that fat bag of weed and the brew so I can get faded, elevated, smoke the joint down to a roach then I ate it…” Yes! Like who brings marijuana to life via music like Cypress Hill?
Take a Hit – Mack 10
Uh huh, you remember … when Smokey was in his bedroom with Craig puffing away on Big Worm’s buddha! “Damn, all you do is smoke weed!” “Dats alright. Don’t worry bout what the f*ck I be doing.”
This track by Mack 10 is one of our favorite joints (pun intended). Oh, and we loved the fact that he bagged up T-Boz too. Play this song anytime you want a bluesy vibe when toking up.
